Research Chemist Position Announcement - ARS CCRU, Madison, WI

The announcement is for a research chemist vacancy at the USDA-ARS Cereal Crops Research Unit, Madison, Wisconsin. We are pleased that ARS is going forward with filling this position to work in research areas of high priority to barley stakeholders.  

The incumbent serves as a scientist to determine biochemical or physiological roles of metabolites in malting barley and the impacts of these metabolites upon malting quality in order to increase the value of the grain for the producer, the beverage processor, and the consumer.

Responsibilities

  • Identify these metabolic changes, to determine the biochemical or physiological roles of these metabolites, and to determine their impact upon malting quality.
  • Use an array of chemical, biochemical, physiological, statistical and other methodologies as appropriate.
  • Identify metabolites that contribute to malting quality traits, including knowledge of how they are synthesized/ degraded, and how they impact final crop quality.
  • Seek extramural funding and develops collaborative arrangements as appropriate to enhance research objective and within the confines of ARS policies.
