University of Minnesota DON Testing Lab

  1. Sample Size and Type:  10 - 100 g of a representative whole seed or ground sample.  If ground, the particle size of samples should be sufficiently fine to resemble whole wheat flour (see "Sampling Grain for Deoxynivalenol (DON) Analysis: A Researchers Guide" on the USWBSI website).
  2. Packaging and Labeling:  Pack samples in coin envelopes and label them with sample numbers that correspond to the submitted datasheet.  The sample numbers should be consecutive.  You should secure sample envelopes with rubber bands (see example).
  3. Datasheet:  An Excel spreadsheet includes sample numbers and PI´s information (see example).  Please email datasheet to when submitting your samples and enclose a printed copy with your shipment.

Date considerations:  We take samples year round, but data turn around time depends on time of year and how many samples are already submitted.
