Official Variety Testing (OVT) results in Illinois are published online in flat files in Excel and PDF formats. The data summaries include yield results from individual locations and regional averages, scab resistance levels determined by a misted and inoculated nursery evaluation, and phenology trait data including jointing time, heading time, and maturity time. The wealth of information that is available makes it possible for growers to make informed choices about what wheat varieties to grow; however, the large amount of data complicates it utilization. To solve this problem, we developed a simple data browser that presents OVT data in a dynamic table which can be sorted and filtered as desired. Importantly, growers can filter by scab resistance level so that susceptible varieties can be excluded from further consideration. The data browser is currently available at https://wheatovt.cropsci.illinois.edu/. When viewed on a computer, both data and options for sorting and filtering are viewed simultaneously. For users that access the browser on a mobile device, the user sees the filtering options first followed by the results. The data browser was developed in R-Shiny and the source code is available at https://github.com/smallgrains-uiuc/ILWheatOVT.
